It has to be the best part of two decades since an unknown yank called Forrest got clubbers all over the land to sit on dirty beer sodden floors in formation to the dance routine to his version of ‘Rock The Boat’. After perhaps the longest sojourn in history he’s back with a pretty true version of Donnie Elbert’s early ‘70s top ten smash. Remade with a disco twist by the much underrate Hard Soul production team, this is retro bliss that’s as melodically expressive as it is emotionally endearing. Drenched in tingling soul, the jittery faux funk beats and sweet vocals that combine to bridge the gap between old and new schools to near perfection. With a darker mix from Plastika and a sax dub that just oozes with class, this is a pretty essential package from the label that only recently gave us Chocolate Puma.
